how to use a matcha whisk

Step 1

Before whisking, soak your whisk in warm water for 30 seconds. This helps prevent breakage and gently loosens the bamboo strands.

Step 2

Use a small sieve to sift 1–2 grams of matcha into your bowl for a smooth, lump-free blend.

Step 3

Aim for water around 75–80°C (not quite boiling). Add about 60–70ml of water for a traditional usucha (thin) matcha.

Step 4

Whisk briskly in a zig-zag motion to create tiny bubbles, like a gentle matcha cloud.
