Matcha FAQs
What does matcha taste like?▼
Matcha has a unique, vibrant flavour that can be described as smooth, earthy, and slightly sweet with a hint of umami. High-quality matcha often has a creamy, velvety texture and minimal bitterness. If you’re new to matcha, its taste can be enhanced with a splash of your favourite milk for a latte or a touch of natural sweetener. The flavour profile of matcha makes it a versatile drink, perfect for both tea enthusiasts and those looking for a healthier coffee alternative.
Do I need to use a matcha whisk?▼
Yes, a matcha whisk (also called a chasen) is the best way to prep your matcha the traditional way. it blends the powder evenly, creating a smooth, frothy texture without clumps. while milk frothers or kitchen whisks work in a pinch, nothing beats the feel and result of a bamboo whisk. it’s all part of the ritual.
How long does matcha last in the tin?▼
Ceremonial matcha stays fresh for about 6–12 months after opening if stored properly. However, for the best flavour and maximum nutritional benefits, we recommend consuming it within 1–2 months of opening. To maintain its vibrant green colour and fresh taste, store it in an airtight tin, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Refrigeration can help extend its shelf life, especially in warmer climates. Enjoy your matcha at its freshest by incorporating it into your daily rituals!
How do I make a matcha?▼
Making matcha is simple and fun! Here’s how to prepare a traditional cup:
- Sift 1–2 teaspoons of ceremonial matcha powder into a bowl to remove clumps.
- Add 2–3 ounces of hot water (not boiling, around 80°C/175°F) to the powder.
- Use a matcha whisk to whisk in a zigzag motion until frothy and smooth.
- Enjoy as is, or add steamed milk for a creamy matcha latte.
